The John Williams Experience

On Saturday, June 3, 2000, my friend Curt and I had the pleasure of not only seeing John Williams conduct the Boston Pops, but also meeting the composer after the show. As a long time John Williams fan, and a student of music myself, this was a night I will never forget. For many years John Williams has been my musical influence, and that night I got the pleasure of shaking hands with the greatest composer of film and T.V. ever!!!!
After a 15 hour bus ride from Niagara Falls Canada, we arrived in Boston on the Friday, did some sight seeing during the day Saturday, and saw the concert on Saturday night. When we got the pictures back, I wanted to share my experience with other John Williams fans, so below, are pictures from the Saturday, June 3, Boston Pops concert, conducted by John Williams.

Symphony Hall is very beautiful...You can tell the size of the building from the outside. The hall itself has floor seating, and the balcony seats are set up in the shape of a "U" which goes around the hall.
On the front walls above the orchestra were projections of various logos and pictures that changed after every set.
The orchestra was great that night. The concert started right at 8:00pm, even after the porcess of setting up and tuning.
Yo-Yo Ma came out early and did an Irish piece with the orchestra which lead into the music from "Far and Away". Mr. Ma is the one on the left in the black tuxedo
One of the great treats during the concert was John Williams playing the piano parts for Angela's Ashes. The large version of this picture isn't the greatest but I had to put it on the page. Frank McCourt narrated(bottom right), who wrote the novel, and Yo-Yo Ma played cello.(to the right of the piano)
John Williams, Yo-Yo Ma and Frank McCourt at the end of Angela's Ashes.
John always gave credit where it was due. After every piece he had the orchestra stand and bow.
Broadway star Patti LuPone came out and sang a set, doing various tunes from Peter Pan and other Broadway Musicals.
Before the encore piece, John Williams brought all the guests back on stage for numerous encore applause.
The encore piece was amazing. It was the flying theme from E.T. It's one thing to hear it on cd, but to hear it LIVE is amazing.
After years of wondering if I would ever get the chance to meet him, my dream came true.
After saying some hellos, and signing mine and Curt's Schindler's List cds, and taking pictures with us, he said his good-byes and was escorted to his limo.
